Tournament History

In 1995, the first Wayne Barber Memorial Golf Tournament was held at Tamarack Country Club commemorating Wayne Barber, Sr., a Metro East native who passed away from ALS in 1992.

The tournament was renamed Swing for a Cure in 2005 to become a living tribute to all whose lives were prematurely taken by ALS, Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Below is a 1999 article from the Belleville News-Democrat with some of Wayne Barber's story and how the tournament was founded.
